The Heian Period

The Heian Period started in the late eighth century and lasted until the late twelfth century in Japan.  Heavily influenced by Tang Dynasty China, this was the high time of pomp and ritual in the Japanese Imperial Court.  Records of the Heian Period are woven with myth and legend which is a stark contrast to the following Kamakura Period.
